Research Report - A Survey On How Many Students Are Addicted To Online Games

On 29th March 2012, I had successfully conducted a survey on how many students are addicted to online games. The survey was carried out in Lecture Room 14, Block N at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP). About 34 students were surveyed which consists of 12 male and 22 female students from various backgrounds, races and nationality. Majority of the students of UTP own a laptop and the internet service is provided in every parts of UTP for free and based on that, I think my survey is appropriate to the accordance of students’ interest.

From the survey, I found out that about 68.5% of students are addicted to online games which indicates a major influence of internet usage to students’ habit. Another 31.5% kills a number of the students who do not find that online games are interesting to play everyday. From the survey also I managed to ask to the students on the list of online games that hit the top chart which also they are addicted to. Most students gave answers which about the same such as Counter Strikes, Dota and Pro Evolution Soccer (PES).

In my opinion, playing online games is a good way of distressing oneself after a hardwork of study instead of go clubbing or get drunk. Nevertheless, getting addicted to online games is not a healthy thing for a student and ought not to be a daily routine. The amenity of free internet service provided by UTP should be used wisely and online games should not monopolize the usage of internet totally.

Finally, I can conclude that the development of science and technology gives a huge influence to human beings especially to students who tend to use it to play online games until majority of them get addicted. Students should manage the usage of internet wisely accordance to the need. This finally will produce undergraduates that use the advanced technology to the best which then meet the nation’s future need.
