What would you do if you had a genie lamp and you were
given a chance to pick where to study ? Which would you prefer ? Where would
you go ? Studying abroad in SWANSEA or studying locally here in UTP ? If i was
asked a few hundred times, i would still choose to go UTP or anywhere located
in my beloved country, Malaysia.
My choice of studies would be in University of Technology
Petronas, UTP, Tronoh, Perak located somewhere at north of Malaysia. It is one
of the best private university in Malaysia after University of Nottingham. UTP
is also well-known in collaborating in one of the top companies in oils and
gases, PETRONAS. Overall, UTP is ranked
at number 17 in the whole Malaysia and that for me is a good number.
Withal, studying in local university is also low cost
compared to studying somewhere abroad. There will be no need in exchange money
rates. Nevertheless, most people who goes abroad to further their studies is
under scholarships. Anyhow, they also have to work there to maintain thir life
with a high living cost. Plus, only a few numbers of students who are sent to
study abroad.
Besides that, opportunities not only provided by studying overseas but also
provided by local universities for their students. UTP now is very well-known
by top companies all over Malaysia and their graduates usually gets a job
quicker than other graduates. True, some companies to take graduates from
overseas university because the misconception of having more experience there.
Local universities are now providing extra-time internship so that students are
more prepared when they are exposed in a real world. Furthermore, some of the
graduates from overseas gets culture shock when they are abroad and when they
are return back to Malaysia, they are not much good to their country.
In a nutshell, studying locally will not only help
students financially with low price compared studying abroad but in fact
provide us with good job opportunities. In addition, UTP is also very well known
and good enough to produce a well rounded graduates. I hope Malaysian students
will not have a bad mind set on local universities because nowadays local
universities are producing more quality students every year.
