Massive Explosion Turned One of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Academic Block Into Dust (Newspaper Report)

24 Feb, Tronoh. A massive Explosion happened in the middle of the night and destroyed the entire Block 19, an academic building of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), a prominent private engineering and technology university which held at 350km northern of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. According to one of the student of UTP, Chong Yew Yang, 18, there was a loud sound that woke every single of them from their dreams and once they walked out from their hostel, they saw the entire sky turned brick red and there was fire on the academic block not far away.

                Besides, according to a injured security who was patrolling at Pocket D, where Block 19 was held, the explosion was massive and unpredictable because there was no sign at all before the explosion happened. The injured security was thrown five meters away by the force produced by the explosion although he was not near to block 19. Luckily, he landed on the grass field instead of the floor which full of grass fragment, so he did not suffer from any serious injuries. According to the fire fighter, Mr. Yusof, the explosion is caused by chemical reaction. The chemical is too reactive and even corrode the container and mixed with other chemical and produced a chemical reaction then explosion occurred. According to Vice Chancellor, immediate action will be taken to make sure all the student and staff are secure from any health problems. Besides, the damaged block will be repair once the block are proven free from chemical attack that will cause health problems.
